Christmas Time

Since the 90 degree weather made it difficult to get into the Christmas spirit, we splurged and ordered the 6 foot, 400 branch tree from a local Singapore grocery store. Obviously, we opted for delivery since we knew we would have trouble getting a tree that size in a cab.  We both cleared out schedules and got ready for a night at home to celebrate Christmas.

Imagine our surprise, when the tree arrived in a tiny, skinny box.   I would definitely say the manufacturer over-promised on the uh - 6 foot, 400 branch description.  Oh well - it served its purpose.

After we had the tree up, we kicked off the Christmas parties.  Our friends had a Gluhwein party - with plenty of delicious mulled wine made by our German friend and appetizers made of cheese (a rarity in Singapore).

Ho! Ho! Ho!
Overall, Jim and I were impressed with the Singapore Christmas-time celebration.  We were not sure what to expect - but the streets were adorned in lights, we went to a Christmas market at Chijmes (a beautiful old church) and braved a crazy packed festival at Gardens by the Bay.

On actual Christmas eve, we ate in and then went to Mass.  In a situation fitting for the season, we were turned away from the first church because there was no room for us to stand.  Fortunately, unlike Mary and Joseph our iphones were able to quickly provide a suitable back-up.  We enjoyed Mass sitting outside with about 2,000 others watching the service outside a full church on a big screen.  A Christmas eve mass to remember ; )

Merry Christmas,
Jenna and Jim
