TOYKO, JAPAN

Kon'nichiwa!

On the way back to the red dot, Jim and I made a pit-stop in Toyko.  Toyko had been on our bucket-list for quite some time, and we can finally confirm it is as delightfully weird as everyone says. From the whacky fashion to the animal cafes - its quirky colors shone brightly from the moment we landed.

Our experience that most highlights the out-there atmosphere was our trip to the Robot Restaurant.  We pre-arranged a ride with the restaurant, and when they sent a van with a female cast member - we knew we were in for a real treat.   The 90 minute show was full of lights, crazy music, and of course - robots fighting.  While the storyline was a bit abstract and in Japanese, it really is a definite MUST if your heart can handle it.

The End.
After the Robot Adventure, we decided to tame the trip down a bit with a quiet sushi dinner served by a sushi master in a small basement restaurant.  Only the sushi master's wife and the male in the only other couple there spoke a little English. However for 3 hours, we conversed slowly, laughed, drank a lot of Sake and ate fabulous Sushi together.  The entire evening was surreal -  6 complete strangers figured out a way to converse with one another and exchanged contact info at the end.  By far, the best meal and dining experience of our lives.

Besides, the fabulous food - Tokyo also provides some amazing cultural notes such as the famed Meiji Shrine, Golden Gai Area and of course - the craziness of the Shibuya crossing!

Beginning to cross... this picture really doesn't do the madness justice.
Our time in Toyko was capped off at the Swallows Baseball Game.  What an experience!  Both teams had cheerleaders and the fans engaged in synchronized cheers complete with a saxophone.  To top it off - we witnessed a bench-clearing brawl (obviously started by the only American player on the team).   The only hiccup - was our run-in with the law.  Jim and I were sitting in the visitor section, but wearing our new Swallows gear.  Apparently, there is a rule that you cannot wear home team gear in the visitor section, and vice-versa.  As the Japanese police approached us, scenes from broken-down palace raced through my head.  Thankfully, they quickly realized we had no clue what we were doing and let us go with a warning once we removed our gear.  Overall - a heart-racing, hilarious end to the game!

Toyko was fabulous, and it definitely makes me want to explore other parts of Japan! Hopefully, we can get there again.

Sayonara!
