Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

Our celebratory 31st Birthday Trip was to Ho Chi Minh City, formally known as Saigon (any reason for another vacation - right?).  We immediately took to the patchwork cityscape of HCMC with its high-energy vibes, fabulous food, and tumultuous history.

Hands down, Jim and I agree that Vietnam has the most friendly people!  We thoroughly enjoyed the engaging conversations, particularly with the 2 Vietnamese women assigned to us on our Foodie Tour.  In my opinion, the foodie tour is a MUST if you visit HCMC.  For 5 hours, we rode on the back of motorbikes to dining establishments across the city, trying local delicacies. Even the rain couldn't keep us from enjoying this fabulous experience!

The incredible food was definitely the high of the trip!  My cousin used to live in HCMC, and also recommended some incredible restaurants - one made famous by Brangelina (RIP).  The entire meal was filled with: "Do you think we are using the same chopsticks as Angelina?"and "I definitely just used the same urinal that Brad did."

Jim prefers his menu in leather-bound books.. just like Brad.

(where the US foreign correspondents stayed during the war, and watched the fighting from a distance at night)
During the days, we had a nice balance of pool-time relaxation/market shopping versus history tours. The history tours covered the HCMC basics -  museums, Chi Chi tunnels, Reunification palace, Post Office,  and Notre-Dame Basilica.

What a great 31st Birthday trip!  Hopefully we next year we will be somewhere equally as fabulous.

Cheers!
