Phuket

We finally began our exploration of Southeast Asia with a weekend trip to Phuket, Thailand.  Luckily, Phuket is only an hour and half flight from Singapore and it is definitely a trip we hope to make again soon.  We stayed at the TwinPalms in an area called Surin Beach, a peaceful oasis away from other areas of the island known for their nightlife.

Although June marks the beginning of the rainy season in Phuket, we were very fortunate in that we enjoyed sunshine the entire weekend.

The first day, we focused on rest & relaxation.
Beach, Pool, Massages and Fruity Drinks = Heaven.

The Catch Night Club is gearing up for the night

The second day, we signed up for a sea adventure with Simba Sea Tours.  It was the highlight of the trip and the tour guide did such an amazing job. We explored sea caves, went sea canoeing, swam in hidden lagoons, saw Phang Nga (James Bond Island) and enjoyed some local cuisine/sights on Yao Noi.

5:30 am wakeup. On the water bright and early!

Hard Hats
(exploring the caves before they are filled with water during high tide)

Mud Skipper - A fish that walks
(Jim was so fascinated by the mudskippers that 50 photos/videos later, he killed the battery on our camera. Thankfully, I brought my iPhone for the remainder of the pics or he would still be in the doghouse)

Tiny prawns were all over the ground

Tuk-Tuk to Lunch on Yao Noi

O, Hey Mister Monkey
(He is being trained to climb trees and throw the coconuts down.  Our guide called him a "worker monkey".  He gets food/drink in exchange for his work.)

Rubber Trees - the little white jars on them collect the rubber (which smells terrible) and are changed daily.

Yum!

 Loved this island!

Lagoon Water - gorgeous

Overall, it was perfect day - well almost perfect day.  Jim accidentally swam into a jellyfish and got a nasty sting.  (Although his version of the story claims he was "viciously attacked").  Luckily, the guides had medicine/vinegar on the boat and took care of him in no time.

His Battle "wounds"

On our last day in Phuket, we headed to town to see some sights (and of course ended the day with a massage).

Until next time Phuket!
