Jim's 30th Birthday

On Friday, Jim picked a lovely Thai restaurant in Dempsey Hill (the fancy area) of Singapore named Jim Thompson.   We enjoyed a delicious meal outdoors with traditional Thai dancers performing around us.  The restaurant was amazing and we truly felt like we were back in Thailand.  Ironically, when we got the bill, we realized we could have flown to Thailand, eaten, and flown back.  Oh well - you only turn 30 once ; )

Saturday, we decided to head out to drinks with friends.  I organized a little gathering of all our expat friends at a rooftop bar downtown.  Singapore is celebrating its 50th year of independence in August, and they have been practicing the parade, water show, airshow and fireworks every Saturday night.   I strategically chose a bar overlooking these events so we could enjoy the practice ; )   After the show, we headed to a BBQ place for dinner and capped off the night home with a walk through club street.

On Sunday, I dragged Jim across the island to a beer garden in Labrador Park.  The beer garden is called "The Training Shed" and every Sunday they have a massive party with bands and DJs.  We enjoyed a few local brews outside.. until the monsoon started.

Jim's Not Impressed with the Rain
On Monday, Jim worked while I cooked/decorated like a mad woman.  After a very well-cooked dinner (If I may pat myself on the back), we face-timed Pete, Cara and Matthew to sing Happy Birthday to Jim as he blew out 30 candles.   I even turned off E! and let Jim watch Homeland on the big TV for his birthday (that's love). All-in-all, a very successful birthday weekend!
