Hong Kong

Last week, the Singapore Government cancelled work to ensure Singaporeans were able to make it to the polls to vote (seriously, great idea - America take note).

Since Jim and I are obviously unable to vote, we took advantage of the surprise 3 day weekend and hopped a flight to Hong Kong.  The trip started out on a high note - with an incredible room upgrade and bottle of champagne.

Hello beautiful city
After soaking in the hotel room view, we started with our signature dorky move - the double-decker tour bus.  We only had 3 days to see Hong Kong, so this was a great way to cover a lot of ground.   The first day was spent on the city side of Hong Kong - the central market and mid-escalators, harbour ferry tour and parks.

Our hotel had a complimentary happy hour and with the price of drinks in Singapore, we took full advantage!  After some cocktails, we asked the hotel to book us a taxi and make us reservations for some dim sum (with the language barrier - we really relied on the hotel to get us around.  they were amazing).  To our surprise, the taxi took us to the restaurant at the Ritz.  Jim and I could not stop laughing - definitely out of our element!  After some deliciously pricey dim-sum with a fabulous view, we headed to the ozone bar - the highest bar in the world - for a post dinner drink.  The view was fabulous, and it was definitely a scene for "beautiful people".  We enjoyed our Baileys and left just as the techno started..

Day 2 was spent on the other side of Hong Kong - the beautiful beaches.  To be honest, I had no idea Hong Kong had such a beautiful beach side!  We hopped off the double decker bus at Stanley Beach and explored the beautiful market, boardwalk and temples.

Sites of Stanley Beach
Gorgeous Temple - it was hit by 2 bombs during WWII, but the bombs never went off - saving the  all the people who were hiding in it.

Lovely.

We are standing in an old building that used to be in the city.  It was moved and reconstructed in Stanley; however, when they finished construction - they had 6 pillars left over.  Since they could not figure out where they originally went, they just placed them on the boardwalk. #dontdoapuzzlewiththisarchitect

After a day at the beach, we took the tram to the top of the Peak - the famous viewing point in Hong Kong for some pictures.  Dinner was at Posto Pubblico - an amazing Italian place in SoHo. Our friends suggested it and it was seriously an amazing meal!

On our last day, we finally squeezed some shopping in (yay)! After some excellent purchases at the Ladies Market, we enjoyed a quick swim and some very local dim-sum.

At the start of shopping, Jim was all peace and love...

Wish I could tell you the name of the local dim sum place..
The bustling city and crazy nightlife of Hong Kong was a great change of pace from calm Singapore.     Jim and I definitely hope we can return some day!

Until Next time Hong Kong!

Cheers,
Jenna and Jim
