Happy Singapore 50

National Day was extra special this year as Singapore celebrated their 50th year of independence. The government even declared an extra holiday (yay - 4 day weekend).  As cheesy as this sounds, it was an honor to be here for it and watch the celebratory preparations and festivities.

The city was abuzz with excitement! The marching bands, dancers, fireworks, airshows, etc. had been practicing for months for the big day!

Jim and I were beyond excited to watch the celebration.  We were herded down to the Marina Bay Sands with the rest of Singapore to catch a glimpse of the show.  The atmosphere was completely electric. We absolutely loved the airshow!

I think the thing that struck me the most was after the festivities, the Singaporean citizens stayed and help pick up any garbage, etc that was left behind.  They have so much respect for their county and you could see the pride on every Singaporeans face - young and old.  I kept reminding myself that half the people in attendance were alive when they initially received their independence from Malaysia.  Truly a memorable night!

*not my photo, just thought it beautifully captured SG50

Happy 50,
Jenna and Jim
